We are looking for a talented Software Developer to join our fast paced team of web development professionals. You must be creative, energetic and you must have the tenacity and persistence to make it work correctly.

When we make hiring decisions, we prioritize attitude and aptitude over raw technical skills. Let's face it, your technical skills will be updated or completely replaced every 18 to 24 months, but your attitude and aptitude will last much, much longer. The successful candidate will thoroughly get this point.

Responsibilities:

You will be on an agile team that develops a wide variety of web applications. Primary applications are for use in e-commerce applications for our national clientele. Other internal applications or application frameworks are also under constant development. You will be expected to participate through all phases of the project lifecycle (speculation through maintenance) and can expect to be in contact with our clients on a regular basis.

Required Skills:

• The Fundamentals. You must be able to write W3C valid XHTML, XML and CSS. Actually, you must be able to write code that writes W3C valid XHTML and the like.


• Object Oriented software development using PHP4, PHP5, and other languages as necessary.


• Experience and understanding of design patterns used for web applications. MVC, Page Controller, Front Controller and Active Record are typical patterns we deal with.


• Strong understanding of networks and networking as they apply to web applications. Thorough understanding of the HTTP and HTTPS protocols is required.


• Working knowledge of both Unix and Windows. Prefer strength in Unix (all flavors) for a software development environment.


• Source Code Control such as CVS or Subversion.


• Relational Databases. PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle or similar, with a preference toward PostgreSQL.

Bonus (but not required) Skills:

Linux. We are not a Microsoft Shop. Our servers run Linux exclusively.
Apache. The world's leading web server.
Shell scripting. #!/bin/bash
Agile Software Development processes such as XP or Scrum. It's how we do what we do.
Unit Test Frameworks such as PHPUnit (similar to JUnit).
Code Documentation utilities such as PHPDocumentor (similar to Javadoc).
